12 Mindset Changes for A Better Life
Our habits make us who we are. Every single action we take is a vote for the person we want to be. Each small habit is a step in the ladder to reach our destination. Our success, achievements, and even our failures depend on the small habits that we develop over time. Here are 12 habits and changes to our mindset we can implement to live a better and more fulfilling life:
1. Defining/Re-Defining ‘Success’
Understanding what you define as ‘Success’ is the first step to getting there. What would make you feel successful? Why? Define this by your own standards. Everyone has a different definition of success, and our definition of success is what determines if we are going to be happy or not.
2. Taking More Chances
Just do it. Don’t think about it, don’t reason it, and don’t try to make it better or worse than it is. If you know a certain activity is good for you, just do it! We only regret the chances we didn’t take, not the ones that we took and failed.
3. Starting Strong
It is said that the first two hours of the day determine how the rest of the day goes. Start strong each day by getting up on the first alarm and having a productive morning routine. When you wake up in the morning, you are filled with positive enthusiasm; use that to make your day worthwhile.
4. Planning the Day
No matter how unsuccessful or successful you may be, you will still only have 24 hours a day. How you use this time will determine where you go in life, and every bit of time you do not plan is time that someone else will plan for you. Although you do not need to plan every single hour, having a plan for every day is good for your productivity.
5. Letting Go of Things & People
There are so many things & people not worth your time or energy. Let these go. If the thing you are doing does not make you feel better afterward, it is time to drop it. The same goes for people. Let them go no matter how hard; you’ll fill that slot with something better sooner than you think. Every single person in our life comes for a reason. You either learn from them, or they learn from you. Do not be afraid to let people go.
6. Working Hard
If you cannot get lucky, you have to get working. Very few get lucky, and very many wait for luck. Instead, I would recommend working hard now, so you gain success one way or another. If luck comes your way, great, but if not, you will still get what you want out of life. Remember, only hard-working people tend to get lucky in the long run.
“The harder I work, the luckier I get.” -Samuel Goldwyn
7. Being Accountable
It is on you if you allow excuses and reasons to keep you from success. If you do not hold yourself accountable no one else will for no one has to pay the price, or reap the rewards, of that accountability but you. Being proactive or responsible for your deeds is one of the ‘7 Habits of Highly Effective People.’
8. Reflecting
You are not perfect. No one is. But if you do not take time to reflect, learn, and grow you will fall behind eventually. Reflect on your day, reflect on what you did and did not do, and reflect on everything you tried to implement. This will start a compounding growth effect.
9. Learning Ludicrous Amounts
Two books a month is the bare minimum to reach success. If you want to reach success, you will learn much more than that. Just remember that true learning takes place by applying what you learn. Staying in touch with continuous learning is going to take you to greater heights. Everyone wants to know how the richest people in the world got rich, but they never want to know what books they have read to get there in the first place.
10. Working Behind the Scenes
No one can attest to what happens behind the scenes other than you. But it is behind the scenes that will make the difference between succeeding and not succeeding. Show enough integrity to do more behind the scenes than in front of them.
11. Being Courageous
Courage, more so than any other aspect, opens opportunities and gateways you would never have seen otherwise. Take calculated risks, say ‘Yes’ to things that scare you and opportunities you do not feel quite ready for, and go for exactly what you want. These will be the best things you will ever do. Remember, it’s not the things you did wrong that you will regret later, but the things you never dared to attempt.
12. Enjoying the Journey
Many times in life we will become obsessed with our end goal, thinking if we can just reach that goal, we will finally be happy. Too often, this is not the reality of the situation. The journey and our enjoyment of it bring us true happiness, not the final destination.
Wrapping Up
Building these mindsets in your life is not going to be easy. It is going to take time and patience. In the end, however, it is going to be worth it. Your life is going to improve, and your mental health will become better. You will start to realize that these mindsets make a person positive, happy, and successful.
