Turning on Read Receipts on Your iPhone is Surprisingly Powerful
A few years ago I decided to put my iMessage texts to include read receipts.
A read receipt lets the sender know what time you read their blue iMessage (a text message between 2 Apple iPhones). They are optional, with about half of the population having them turned off.
It might be a bit silly, but turning on read receipts has actually become a surprisingly power productivity tool. Not to mention, it’s extremely liberating. Here are two of the benefits I found once I turned my read receipts on when texting:
- You are only touching the message once. This refers to the Touch It Once Rule, a productivity hack where you only touch each task once. As soon as you open the message you respond, saving extra time and brainpower on texting.
- Less worry. Let’s face it, the main reason most people don’t have our read receipts on is that we don’t want the other person to know we read their message but didn’t respond. Deciding you will respond and holding yourself accountable prevents anxiety, forgetfulness, and the potential for awkward conversations. It’s one less thing in the back of your mind.
It’s amazing that something as simple as a text message read receipt can make life less complicated. This week I urge you to do two things:
- Try having your read receipts on for a week. Does it make a difference?
- What other small and seemingly meaningless things can you improve upon that can pay dividends toward your growth?
Looking forward to seeing your results!
