Diary #1: Moving Ain’t Easy
Welcome to my life!
This week, I decided I wanted to introduce something new to my website. Usually, I write self-help articles about self-improvement and personal development, giving advice, tips, and techniques on how to become the best version of yourself.
And I love doing it! And I will continue doing it every Wednesday.
But I do also want to share my personal life with all of my readers and anybody who comes across my website. I believe doing so will also help with my own self-development as I am being vulnerable to a large audience and sharing myself with them. As an introverted and private person, this is not always an easy thing for me to do.
At the same time, I want to continue to enjoy writing and I want to make sure that I am writing compelling and engaging material that you all want to read! That is why these personal life-sharing blog articles, what I am dubbing as “Diaries”, will be sporadic. There will be no set time or a set amount for these diaries. I might begin to do them every week at one point, in addition to the normal self-improvement style articles I write every week, or this might be the only one I ever write. It will completely depend on my mood, if I have something compelling to speak about, and most importantly the feedback from my amazing readers. If you are for or against this idea, let me know! Your feedback helps me become a better writer!
So let me get into the first diary session…
Moving Ain’t Easy
These past few weeks have been very hectic for me. I moved across the country from the beautiful and cultivating New York to the new (to me) and exciting Houston, Texas. It was certainly a big move for me and will be starting the next chapter of my life. Luckily, everything so far has gone smoothly in the transition, but there have been a lot of moving parts, no pun intended. Nobody tells you how difficult moving really is until you do it! If you are moving into your first apartment, here is a great checklist to make sure you buy everything that you need.
I am so lucky I have an amazing family and support system that helped me with this move and made the transition as seamless as possible. I am so grateful that everything went right when I know a million things could have gone wrong. I’m also so happy to have found an amazing apartment that I love and am excited to call home!
For now, my dog Smokey is still in New York, but he will be coming to live with me in Houston within the next few weeks. I am leaving all my friends and family back in New York. I don’t know many people here yet, but I am excited to take on this new journey and discover everything that Texas offers, including its amazing food and people!
When’s the last time you moved to a new place, and what was that experience like? Let me know in the comments or email me directly at eric@ericgolban.com
Also, give me some great tips for moving or places to see if you are local to Houston 😉 .
Best,
Eric
Hey Eric.
Thank you for writing this. Really enjoyed reading it. I think it’s lovely to get the opportunity to get to know a writer/blogger that we follow better.
This move feels like a huge deal in your life. I can’t imagine it being easy. I wish you the best of luck for this new chapter that you’re starting, and hope that you (and eventually your dog) settle in quickly.
I don’t know much about Houston, so can’t really help there, but with regards to moving advice I say get things out of boxes and in there place ASAP, otherwise you’ll never get around to it, especially if you have the procrastination gene (speaking from experience).
I look forward to reading more journal/diary-style posts from you.
Best wishes,
Rachel
Hey Rachel,
Thank you so much for the best wishes. I have gotten into a good habit the past few years of not procrastinating and have already put everything away. That is great advice because I agree that if I didn’t do it ASAP, I probably wouldn’t have gotten around to it.
I’m happy you enjoyed the diary format! I will most likely end up writing more posts like this in the future.
Have a great one,
Eric
